History

Virginia Beach Central Academy, formerly known as the Career Development Center (CDC), opened officially in 1978. Classrooms and administrative offices were housed in portables until the current building opened in February 1980. The name of the school was changed to Virginia Beach Central Academy in the spring of 1998 to reflect a new beginning.

Mission Statement

Virginia Beach Central Academy's mission is to encourage appropriate social behaviors and foster the development of positive character skills to increase academic achievement in at-risk students.

Governing Values

The staff, parents, and community recognize that the majority of Virginia Beach Central Academy students come to school with conditions that put them at risk of failing. Therefore, the staff will strive to grow professionally and provide resources for dealing with students' emotional, psychological, physical, academic, social, and behavioral needs.

The staff, parents, and community recognize the goals of Virginia Beach Central Academy need to be continuously reinforced to the student body. They also recognize that positive socialization is important to student development and are committed to developing and planning enhancement activities. These activities will encourage the development of better student and staff relationships.

Finally the staff, parents, and community acknowledge the importance of ongoing communication among parent, child, teacher and school. The staff is committed to developing plans that will continuously involve parents.
