The
guidance and counseling program is an integral part of a school's total
educational
program. It is a systematic process designed to aid and prepare students
to make appropriate life choices, plans, and adjustments related to
their academic, career, and personal/social counseling. No student
shall be required to participate in any guidance and counseling program
to which the student's parents object. Purposes and objectives of the
program shall reflect the needs of the students and be developed by
an advisory committee in each school which shall include parents. All
programs and services shall be in compliance with state regulations.
Counselors are
specifically credentialed professionals who work in school settings
with students, parents, other educators, and community agencies to
help students acquire skills in the social, personal, educational,
and career/vocational areas necessary for living in a multicultural
society. In addition, counselors conduct enrollment conferences, arrange
student schedules, and maintain student records. Counselors welcome
the opportunity to talk with students and their parents. Parents may
arrange conferences by calling the school.
There are two
guidance counselors. Students are assigned to the guidance counselors
alphabetically. To see a counselor, students should obtain an appointment
request from the guidance department before school, during lunch, or
Thursday, January 3, 2008
time. This process helps keep students from missing valuable class
time while waiting for a counselor to become available. Students who
have an emergency or crisis situation will be given priority. Students
should report directly to the counselor's office or assistant principal's
office for assistance.
