School psychology services at Virginia Beach Central Academy include the following: group counseling (usually ongoing), individual counseling (usually short-term), evaluations for the Child Study Team, crisis interventions, and consultations for teachers and parents. School psychology services address the thinking patterns, the emotional responses, and the behavior patterns that interfere with a student's progress in school. The goal of the service is to help students mature to become responsible and capable adults.

The school psychologist will be available at Virginia Beach Central Academy and may be called for emergencies. Unlike school counseling services, school psychology services are an option for parents and students. That is, in most situations, parents must give their permission for a student to be seen by the school psychologist. The exceptions are emergency cases or urgent situations such as suicidal threats or attempts, homicidal threats or attempts, and attempts to do bodily harm to self or others. or administrator. The counselor or administrator may obtain permission by telephone, or preferably, in writing from the parents for their child to speak with the psychologist. In addition, permission forms are available throughout the intake conference.

Also, at intake, all students and parents will be given a form on which they can indicate if they are interested in having the student participate in group counseling. Parent permission is obtained before students participate in a group. Depending on demand and time limitations, groups may be offered in areas such as anger management and grief counseling. The parents may also indicate on the intake form if they would like to have a personal consultation with the school psychologist. If so indicated, the school psychologist will call the parent to discuss the concern and/or arrange a meeting date.If you have specific questions about these services, feel free to call VBCA between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and ask for the school psychologist.
